Unofficial Log of operations of the LST 1138 from July 1950 to 1954 as maitained by Jerry Thompson
Statement by Jerry: I went aboard July 26, 1950, just out of boot camp. There were 10 or 12 of us from Company 50-075. I was in the deck force for
about 2 years and then went into the Second Division. I was in the LCVP's for most of my 41 months aboard. I got out as a Damage Control Man 3rd
with 5 medals.
A Log of happenings can be dull so I wish to point out the some of the interesting items. In September of 1950 they took part in the
Invasion of Korea. In 1951 they visited such diverse locations as the Aleutians and the North Western parts of the USA. They still ended
the year by celebrating? Christmas in Inchon which I can guarantee is not a great location for that event. 1953 stands out for couple of
reasons. We took part in the movement of prisoners between the Korea's and had a record number of movements . A highlight was
the search of some Marshall Islands for a rumoured group of Japanese holdouts. None found.

The Battleship New Jersey arrived on 29 May 1953 to bombard Wonsan while LST 1138 was there to pick up any downed
pilots unfortunate enough to be hit. It was a memorable time and we felt useful and good.
